This issue celebrates the ideas and planning behind the upcoming ASQ Education Division’s Advancing the STEM Agenda Conference and includes four articles on STEM education and Collaboration, including an assessment of NASA summer interns' experiences and their acquisition of 21st century workforce skills, in the NASA Langley Aerospace Research Student Scholars program.

Next Generation Science: Bridge to the Future Karen Meyers, Director, Regional Math and Science Center Grand Valley State University
Learn about the new approach to teaching science in our schools. The Next Generation Science Standards (NGS) for Today's Students and Tomorrow's Workforce was recently released. This paper discusses the proposed standard and the implications for classroom teaching. It will be presented at our STEM conference in Grand Rapids on June 4.
Filling the Gaps: Building and Sustaining a Scientific Workforce Darcie Wallace-Duckworth & Cheryl R. Hild Aegis Sciences Corporation, Nashville, Tennessee
Filling employment gaps in STEM related fields with experienced, well-qualified employees has become increasingly difficult. The authors describe ASC's approach to growing its STEM workforce, through partnerships, internships and training. At the conference, discuss with the authors their success in partnering with STEM organizations in their community to expand their STEM workforce.
Division Sponsors Book on STEM Education
Our Division-sponsored book, Advancing the STEM(science, technology, engineering , math) Agenda: Quality Improvement Supports STEM is now available. It includes a collection of 17 papers based on our 2011 conference on collaborative models for STEM education, integrated teaching/learning best practices, innovative new approaches to STEM, a working model for co-op experiences in engineering and much more. It highlights the success of using the PDSA (plan-do-study-act) continuous improvement cycle to improve STEM education. The book's success stories show the importance of collaboration between PK-12, technical/community colleges, universities and industry.
